Southern Mobility was recommended to me by a local care service for people who use wheelchairs. I knew absolutely nothing about buying a WAV and had no idea where to start. We went along to Southern Mobility for a visit to try and learn more .

It’s always worth giving them a quick ring even if it’s just before you go to ensure they can give you their full attention. Lauretta and Bill were very friendly and very open to introducing us to the world of WAVs . They were interested in our specific needs and requests and educating us in a respectful way.

We ended up visiting four times before making an actual purchase. During these visits we were consistently welcomed with no time pressure and test drove many vehicles. Even after purchase they kept in touch to make sure all was well and to offer ongoing advice if needed.

I recently purchased a WAV from Southern Mobility Vehicles. Their customer centred service, in particular from Patrick Cooper, Operations Director, from my first contact with the company, was very good. This was much appreciated and valued as I was new to WAVs.

Southern Mobility Vehicles (SMV) is a small business, tucked away in a less than impressive location in Westergate, West Sussex. (Finding them is easier with a Satnav, and by not mistaking their location with a similar name 10 miles west of Chichester!) Arriving near closing time on a Saturday afternoon, and in Patrick’s absence, did not diminish the friendly ‘on site’ service I received from Lauretta.

If new to WAVs, as I was, I would strongly recommend a demonstration of ‘loading’ and ‘unloading’ an occupied wheelchair, especially when learning about attaching and securing the winch and safety straps (This was offered on delivery of our WAV, but not possible due to personal circumstances)

The information provided on the transfer of ownership – which included free delivery, a round trip of approximately 80 miles – was sufficient, but subsequent examination of the all the information – the dos and don’ts when ‘loading’ an occupied wheelchair – was found to be essential reading to someone new to using a WAV.

Would I recommend SMV? Yes, certainly. The pre-sale, and post purchase, communication with the Operations Director was excellent.

My wife and I would not hesitate to recommend Patrick and his team at Southern Mobility Vehicles. We had researched online the type of WAV we wanted. Through our research we came across Southern Mobility Vehicles who had the model of WAV we wanted. As we were unable to visit the showroom in person we contacted Southern Mobility Vehicles by email and Patrick responded very quickly by email and followed this up with a phone call. We immediately felt reassured that a visit to the showroom wouldn't be required. Patrick ensured that the WAV we were interested in would meet all our requirements and explained everything so clearly and calmly. He advised us on which insurer was the best to use for wheelchair assisted vehicles. We purchased the WAV and Bill delivered it to our door in London. On delivery Bill explained about the warranty and the key operations of the vehicle such as demonstrating the securing of the wheelchair. The whole task from initial contact via email to purchase and delivery was all done within 5 days. We can't thank Patrick and his team for their amazing speed, but also their absolute professionalism and non pushy nature. We are so delighted with the WAV too, its so lovely to drive and gives us the freedom to enjoy trips out together as a family in complete comfort.

A very different experience. Patrick and Lauretta at Southern Mobility Vehicles surprised me by their knowledge, helpfulness and above all honesty. How refreshing to deal with a company that puts its potential customers before its own interests. Normally a visit to a car dealership can be an uncomfortable experience resisting pressure whatever the subtlety.  On this occasion I can honestly say it was actually an enjoyable and informative experience with absolutely no pressure or persuasion. If you are considering buying a used WAV I think you would find it hard to beat the service that is on offer here.

Can't rate these people high enough. Lauretta and Bill really understanding of our needs, and no high pressure selling, and really allowed me time to understand the ins and outs of the vehicle I bought.

After weeks of searching for the correct WAV we found Lauretta extremely patient and helpful. Bill drove the car we liked quite a way to try our daughter with her electric wheelchair in it. In January 2019 I was searching for a suitable WAV to transport myself and my Mobility Scooter. I looked around and settled on Southern Mobility Vehicles. They had a great selection of used WAVs and were happy for me to try them and they ensured that I could convey my mobility scooter in the rear. I settled on an immaculate, low milage VW Caddy. It was a very reasonable price and I was extremely satisfied and kept it until February 2024.

My circumstances have changed and I now use a large power chair. I needed a different WAV. Where did I go? Obviously back to Southern Mobility Vehicles. I saw an immaculate Ford which was to my liking. Patrick kindly pointed out that it would be unsuitable for my needs. I tried it and he was correct. He suggested that I try a Peugeot Rifter. Bill brought one to my house for me to try. It was nice but not quite right. So they brought another one. It is perfect. Slightly different specs from the first one I tried. A fair price and what’s more a very fair trade in price for my Caddy.

I have been away on holiday and my wife finds it easy to drive being automatic. I stay on my chair in the rear and have good visibility all around me. It makes a world of difference if one can see clearly without contorting ones self. Patrick and Bill could see what was the most suitable vehicle for me and they were right. I can get in the rear via the ramp that my wife finds simple to use. On any fine day, I’ll be out and about in West Sussex and beyond in my lovely Peugeot Rifter.

I was was very happy with my dealings with Southern Mobility Vehicles.  From start to finish their team dealt with us both sensitively and knowledgeably.  Their well appointed yard carries a large choice of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles and the expert advice provided by Lauretta helped us to make the perfect choice of vehicle. After we had a small issue with the vehicle  after a few months  Patrick sorted out the problem without hesitation. It seems like these folks really care for the well being of their clientele.

Just before last Xmas, I purchased a second-hand Seat Alhambra from Southern Mobility.  This is the 2^nd WAV that we’ve sourced from them – the last was some 11 years ago.  On both occasions, we received a first class service reviewing the vehicle’s spec / details and negotiating a fair price;  both cars were delivered to our house in Kingston in good condition and with all the necessary paperwork, service book, manual, etc

If you are like me in any way i.e. late 70s, always interested in cars but knowing almost nothing about wheelchair accessible vehicles, then the process of acquiring one can seem rather daunting, particularly if family/partner circumstances have changed fairly rapidly.  When you’re in your 50s and 60s, the prospect of your partner suffering from a stroke or Parkinson’s and suffering from severely reduced mobility, can be very far from your mind.

This is when choosing a ‘WAV’ becomes very different from simply exchanging one’s car for another.  Where do we start?  Finance is obviously a key factor, but what kind of vehicle will suit us best?  The fact that I personally have sold most of my own cars privately and love driving didn’t help at all.  Nor that by nature I am naturally suspicious and hard to please!  WAVs are quite different in many respects to the kind of vehicles most of us drive, which is why I was very keen to contact a firm that knew what they were doing, and not just interested in selling me a second-hand car.

I wouldn’t be writing this if I wasn’t hugely satisfied (and relieved) with my experience of Southern Mobility Vehicles.  The staff were kind and helpful; we agreed a very fair price for the vehicle (a 12 year old Vauxhall Zafira) and I’m delighted with it.  So too is my wife, who is no longer able to drive herself.  But what makes me happy to give this review is the list of small but very important ‘extras’, as it were, that came with the process: time to take the vehicle for a drive; time to ask any question I wanted; time to look at all the special considerations one needs for a vehicle of this sort.  Southern Mobility Vehicles also provided their own home-produced booklet with all kinds of useful information for someone who was new to a WAV.  To cap it all, a minor fault with one of the sensors was put right under warranty immediately and without any fuss.  A firm that can be trusted!

We went shopping in the new car yesterday afternoon. I haven't seen my wife smile so much in a long time. When we got into Lidl she took off up and down the aisles doing doughnuts in the veg aisle. She went round the whole shop about five times. She was just so happy to be out and about again. What you do is more than just trade in vehicles it brings a completely different quality of life to your customers so thank you so much and please pass our thanks to Lauretta as well.

I'd been talking to a few Companies, both local('ish) and a bit further afield, looking to buy a reasonably priced WAV - to accommodate myself, the odd friend, my dog, and (most importantly) my mobility scooter.

Although most of the people I encountered were helpful and courteous, Patrick (from Southern Mobility Vehicles) came across as someone who was really interested in my requirements, and wanted to ensure I got the right vehicle.

He patiently answered all my questions, quickly, concisely, mostly through WhatsApp and with pictures, and at ALL hours of the day. So, not even daunted at the thought of a 250 mile round trip to collect my WAV, I took the plunge!

Because of the Greater London expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone, my son decided to change his vehicle for a WAV. We were told about Southern Mobility Vehicles so I phoned them up and arranged to go down there. They had a good selection with different makes and types with various prices. After good advice from Patrick and Bill, choosing the right one was easy. It was delivered to our home address taxed, fully serviced with a 3 year warranty. The customer service we received from Patrick and his staff excellent. Highly recommend .

We decided to visit Southern Mobility Vehicles as they had a wide choice of WAVs on their website. Lauretta was very helpful and patient, letting me try my power chair in several WAVs with different interior layouts. The one we ended up buying was something we hadn't considered, but it is so much easier to get in and out of than the type I originally wanted. It was delivered to our house the following week with a new MOT and breakdown cover included, and we have been very happy with the WAV so far.

Going through the painful process of moving from my faithful old estate that gave a decade plus of unstinting reliability, to (out of necessity) a WAV, Patrick showed the 'Patience of Job' in addressing all of my concerns fully and pleasantly. Sincerest thanks !

It would be an understated to say we are pleased with our Caravelle.  It fulfils all our specific needs and that is thanks to  Bill, who listened to us when we explained our situation to him. He spent time before our visit, on the phone and online, so that the decision weather to travel or not from Yorkshire was made with as much information as possible. We were given clear instructions and demonstration and time to absorb the details when we visited and even a chance to look at other options. All round excellence and a good company to deal with.

Patrick and his team have been so helpful and considerate to our needs when we changed our vehicle and bought a slightly smaller one. I would be more than happy to recommend their services to clients they may come into contact with when they need to replace their disability vehicles.

Today we took delivery of our WAV from Southern Mobility Vehicles and I couldn’t be happier. As we live a good distance from the showroom, I spoke to Patrick at length about our requirements and preferences. He took additional photos to help us understand the different options and made helpful recommendations and was always happy to answer our questions. We settled on a Kia and it is perfect for our needs, which to me demonstrates the staff at SMV have a great understanding of a wheelchair user’s needs and the features of these vehicles.

Bill then helped us through the purchase and delivered the vehicle to us. All I can say is the vehicle was immaculately prepared. He patiently demonstrated the features and the process of loading and unloading the wheelchair so that we could immediately start using the vehicle without concerns.

I can’t recommend SMV highly enough, these vehicles are game-changing if you get the correct one and getting the correct one needs a dealer who puts the customer’s needs above the sale. We won’t go anywhere else, thank you Bill and Patrick.

In February 2023 I decided to buy a wheelchair accessible vehicle for a close friend of mine living on the Isle of Wight – his wife is wheelchair-bound and he has limited means. I dismissed a private purchase in favour of buying from a dealership as I wanted my friend to have the benefit of a warranty and after-sales support.  I also excluded general dealerships as they don’t have the specialised knowledge of both the vehicles and the disability needs of the customer.  Plus I didn’t want a part-exchanged WAV that they simply wanted to off-load.

Fortuitously, I found a low mileage 2010 vehicle that matched my requirements and budget on the Southern Mobility Vehicles website. On speaking with Patrick Cooper, Operations Director, I swiftly acquired a good vibe for SMV. Mr Cooper described the vehicle in an objective and informative way and was impressively conversant with the features of this particular model. And I didn’t have to endure any clichéd sales patter.  Further, Mr Cooper’s replies to my emailed questions were prompt and fully detailed.  Amazingly, the vehicle comes with new tyres, is freshly serviced, has a new MOT and 36 months warranty. I decided to buy, and confident that the vehicle was everything it purported to be I broke a lifetime’s habit and purchased without viewing – and my faith in SMV was justified.

Bill Cowe, the Administration Manager, then took over and organised the Road Tax, V5 Transfer and HMRC VAT waiver for disability vehicles.  And he also arranged to deliver the vehicle to the Wight Link ferry terminal in Lymington and perform the instructional handover to my friend.  On the day it all went like clockwork and I received a call from my friend later in the day saying, in his words, ‘the vehicle is immaculate and looks as if it’s just come out of a showroom’.

From bracing myself for a tedious search for a suitable vehicle for my friend and the ensuing logistics of getting it to him I’ve been able, thanks to Southern Mobility Vehicles, to accomplish all this from the comfort of my lounge. SMV comes with my highest recommendation.

Cannot recommend this company highly enough. EVERY member is really friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and very caring. A rare find indeed these days. Dealing with Southern Mobility Vehicles was a very smooth and pleasant experience from the initial enquiry to the delivery of the purchased vehicle - all within a relatively short time. The vehicle was brought over to Worthing for a test drive and, having decided it was the right car, things proceeded swiftly from there. I contacted Southern Mobility via email regarding a vehicle I had seen on their website.  It was a van only recently added so I asked for some photos.  Patrick emailed me back very promptly, provided me with lots of information and offered a Whatsapp walk round of the vehicle.  He also sent me lots of photos of the vehicle.  We wanted to view the vehicle and try out the client's wheelchair to ensure it fitted.  Patrick arranged for a colleague of his, Jim to bring the van to us to try it out.  Again, very accommodating and was able to give us a full demonstration as to how everything worked.  We decided that the vehicle was perfect for our client.  The accounts department then took over proceedings and again, was dealt with promptly and efficiently updating us every step of the way.  The process took less than two weeks in total, including part ex.  The van was delivered to the client's house where the support team were given a further demonstration.  Thank you, Patrick and Jim, for all your hard work, and to those behind the scenes.  Highly recommended, fast, efficient great communication and a great selection of vehicles to meet all needs.  Will definitely be back in the future, and will be recommending to others.

We are very happy with our new car which we have affectionately named Gloria as it seemed to fit; it being Gold in colour. It is easy to get my husband in and out of the car and he finds the 'back seat' bright and sunny with the see through roof panel, although he sometimes has become a backseat driver. As the floor was lowered, it made his height not a problem. Other cars we had looked at would have needed him to lose his head; an option which you can understand was not a realistic option! You didn't push us into buying the WAV, rather saying, this car was a trial to see what we would actually need. We went for a trial run in it which was a treat as we hadn't been out in about three months because our previous car kept breaking down and 'dying' making it unsafe for us to use. You even very generously took our previous car away.

Having recently purchased my latest Wheelchair vehicle from Southern Mobility Vehicles, the biggest complement I can pay them is that they seemed to try their hardest NOT to sell me a vehicle. Once I was interested in a vehicle Patrick went out of his way to ensure it was the right vehicle for us, asking me to send pictures and sizes of the wheelchair including my wife to ensure that both would fit comfortably. I am pleased to say that the vehicle is ideal for us as my wife can now sit up front with me ensuring she can see what is happening, control the music and make sure I generally behave myself!

I have made use of  Southern Mobility Vehicles to help me acquire wheelchair accessible vehicles for my wheelchair bound wife over the last few years.. The first wheelchair accessible vehicles I bought many years ago required my wife to sit in the rear passenger area. She tolerated this arrangement but was very keen to be able to sit next to me as driver - the usual arrangement for all our pre - wheelchair - married life. So I looked for an up front vehicle and found one quickly in the form of the Brotherwood up front adapted Kia Sedona. from Southern Mobility. 

Purchasing this was a painless process and I have used this vehicle for several years to my wife's general satisfaction. However with the passage of time and the effects of ageing my wife has found that whereas the upfront arrangement was acceptable for short journeys it was not for longer journeys because however good the tethering arrangements the upfront wheelchair always moves if only to a small extent when the vehicle is being driven using all types of public roads. My wife formed the view that for long journeys she wanted to be able to sit in an ordinary car seat that would not be prone to any movement whatsoever. An entirely reasonable requirement in my view.

So discussing this new requirement with Patrick Cooper at Southern Mobility we came to the conclusion that a VW Caravelle with an upfront facility plus plenty of room in the back passenger area to allow my wife to slide from her wheelchair onto one of the seats there would meet my wife's needs.

 Problem solved it seemed until another purchaser snapped up the Caravelle that Southern Mobility had demonstrated to me on line. Rather depressed by this development I was quickly reassured by Patrick that he would look for another similar vehicle and adapt it as necessary to meet our new needs. Preparing for a long wait I was delighted when in fact Patrick succeeded in this in a matter of weeks and made arrangements - absolutely necessary for my own and my wife's satisfaction -  for us to have it at home to trial at our own pace over a period of days. This required some complex arrangements including insurance etc to be dealt with. which was done very rapidly and I am happy to report that I am now the proud and satisfied owner of the said Caravelle and my wife is looking forward to a much more adventurous life from  now on

So congratulations and thanks to Patrick and his very helpful staff for being much more than sellers of vehicles but rather an organisation that sees its role as satisfying their customers' particular needs. In this role they form an important part of the care network for people with major mobility problems compounded often by the understandable anxieties and needs brought about by the ageing process.

Unable to find a knowledgeable WAV specialist in Cornwall I found Southern Mobility Vehicles on Youtube. I contacted Patrick and explained where I was located and my requirement for a vehicle to transport my wife's new Mobility Scooter. He recommended one of his stock WAVs and offered to bring it to Cornwall for a trial. Jim turned up with the vehicle on a trailer and explained all the gizmos and gadgets before we took it for a trial run. The vehicle was immaculate and met all our needs and so I made the purchase. Many thanks to Patrick, Bill and Jim for making the purchase quite unpressurised and straightforward. Excellent and professional service by all.

When I was in the unfortunate situation of suddenly having to transport my wife in her wheelchair to the rehabilitation centre, I got in touch with Patrick at SMV, they arranged transport for a visit to SMV. My wife and I found a vehicle that we both liked and in our price range, they also took our vehicle in PX, which saved me the hassle of finding a buyer for it. Nothing was too much trouble for Patrick and the team, and I thank them for their excellent service from start to finish. Recommend.

We first thought about getting a WAV when my husband was finding it more and more difficult to transfer from his wheelchair into our saloon car. He has Motor Neurone Disease, so we knew things wouldn’t get any better. Not really knowing where to start, we asked our local MND Association what experience other members had of these vehicles. One of them mentioned that Southern Mobility Vehicles specialised in WAVs and would be good, so we checked out their website. We didn’t have to wait long for our first appointment which unfortunately turned out to be in torrential rain! Patrick and Bill sat us in their office and patiently tried to establish what our requirements were.

At the time, we were unsure of everything - our budget, whether we wanted to trade in our car, the position of the wheelchair in the vehicle etc. The rain didn’t stop them bringing out some vehicles for us to get a feel for. On trying these and returning home to discuss, we completely changed our minds and returned the following week to try some different vehicles! They were very patient, appreciating that this was a big decision and financial outlay for us. There were two vehicles that we liked and it became apparent that we needed to try them with my husband’s electric wheelchair so they brought them both out to our home the next week and we were able to test drive them both.

Again, great patience and understanding was shown by their colleague Jim who gave instructions on securing the wheelchair and driving features. We made our choice, struck a deal and feel satisfied that we made the right unrushed choice. We also know we are supported if we have any queries or if anything goes wrong. SMV even made a donation to our local MNDA charity!

My recent experience with Southern Mobility Vehicles was second to none and I was very grateful for all your help and advice. I am extremely pleased with my new purchase and looking forward to some warmer and sunnier weather to take my wife for days out locally and further afield. I can highly recommend Southern Mobility Vehicles as a company. They have helped me through the process of buying a WAV - a process I never in a million years thought I would have to do. Patrick discussed what I needed and explained what was available. I now have a little VW caddy which is easy to drive and which will give my husband and I the chance to go out and about, for fun and for boring things like appointments. Three years ago we bought a vehicle from SMV, so when it was time for an upgrade I had no hesitation but to go back to SMV where I received the same friendly and efficient service as before. Having arrived at the point where we were unable to lift our daughter in and out of our family car single handed and therefore only able to take her out when there were 2 adults available, the time had come when we needed to find a wheelchair accessible vehicle, a task we were dreading as we had on numerous occasions entered the world of WAVs only to be bitterly disappointed.  However after a Google for local companies and making contact with Patrick at Southern Mobility Vehicles our search took a turn for the better!  Patrick has a wealth of WAV experience, agreed with me that the choice of vehicle was limited and often (well mostly) not stylish, but he appreciated what we were looking for and suggested we visit SMV and take a look at what was available.

Recently I was asked to try and find a wheelchair access vehicle for a disabled elderly lady who cannot now get into an ordinary car. I spent a day searching the internet and making phone calls without any success, until I came across Southern Mobility Vehicles. My first contact was with Patrick and after a useful chat I agreed to meet him the next day at Chichester. There was one particular vehicle which appeared to be suitable and he spent over an hour with me explaining all the features and measuring, to see if the dimensions I had given him for her wheelchair would allow it to fit safely. We agreed to go ahead but before he concluded the sale he wanted to make absolutely sure that it was the right vehicle for the disabled lady. They therefore agreed to drive it to Guildford to make sure her wheel chair fitted and that she was comfortable. The vehicle was serviced by them and a new MOT was provided, they taxed the vehicle for me and it was delivered. The three chaps who run the company, Jim, Patrick and Bill are knowledgeable and bend over backwards to help and I give them a 100% recommendation.

We were looking for a suitable vehicle for my wheelchair-using wife who has several conditions.  I looked at a few before settling on a Peugeot Rifter supplied by SMV. I went to them after I had viewed a comparable Berlingo in our local dealer and also travelled some distance to another supplier who did not impress me. We are both in our late 70's. We are self-funding and we had a maximum budget. We had a VW Transporter that I had converted to a motor caravan with wheelchair and 'stretcher' facilities, continually modifying them to improve her travel comfort.

So, firstly, my experience of dealing with SMV. What I am about to tell you took place at the most difficult days of the COVID lockdown. SMV's attention to hygiene was impeccable. Jim, Bill and Patrick were extremely patient in dealing with us, showing us a range of small and medium sized vehicles in different price ranges and with different configurations and adaptations. Their experience enabled them to suggest what might work and what was unlikely to, allowing for my wife's disability. They also suggested ways that we might make her wheelchair more comfortable to travel in. Equally important, they really listened to us and were able to answer all our questions.

They gave me the chance to test drive several vehicles and then brought the Peugeot to our home so my wife could experience travelling in it. Although we did not take them up on it, they offered us a fair trade-in value on our VW. SMV take pride in only selling vehicles that satisfy their standards, and all the ones I examined showed the high standards they expect. Also, because they are specialists, they understand the VAT regulations and other legalities: this can be very important when making such a large purchase. And their warranty and breakdown package is one of the most generous I know. In the vehicle documentation they include a list of local companies with whom they work. I suggested them to a friend who has since bought a WAV from them. I also had a problem with my VW and when I phoned, they were able to recommend an automotive electrician to me.”

We settled on a 2020 Peugeot Rifter Automatic that had been used as a demonstration vehicle by the conversion company. I was surprised how refined it is considering that it uses the same bodyshell as the van. It is very quiet and comfortably lively. But what really sold it to us is the ride. It soaks up bumps and potholes better that any of the other vehicles that I tried; in fact my wife finds it more comfortable than our VW.

An extremely positive experience - Each member of the team at SMV that helped me with my recent purchase was exceptional! Patrick understood our requirements and helped us to make the right choice. On our visit to view vehicles he was generous with his time and sensitive to our difficulties. With a mobility scooter, unused for 10 years, also an adult electric tricycle used only locally and an all-terrain walker in the garage, they all lacked easy transport to use elsewhere. Then I returned to golf, which I’d played for 50 years then had given up for 7. I was happily persuaded to return to it by my son, stranded from abroad unexpectedly by Covid! The scooter became a golf buggy, my legs had been fixed by the NHS....but, problems. So first port of call was Southern Mobility Vehicles! Good choice. I purchased my first WAV from the guys at Southern Mobility in March 2020, for a new business start up. I discovered Southern Mobility while searching for a VW Caddy to solve, enhance and future proof my wife's deteriorating mobility issues. By necessity the Caddy is total departure from our normal type of car but so far it ticks all the boxes I required also the conversion quality seems first rate. We came cross this site by accident and are so glad we did. On it they were advertising a Rifter Horizon which we were interested in, so we set off to view it.  It was exactly what we required.  One problem was that we had the measurements of my wife’s mobility scooter, but I wasn’t convinced that it would fit in the back.  At that point we were undecided and went home.  That afternoon Bill rang offering to bring the Rifter to us so that we could double check, which we did.  We were reassured and went ahead with the purchase.  A couple of weeks later Bill brought the Rifter to us and took our part exchange Citroen back to their showroom.  Everything was made so easy and the car is a pleasure to drive.  I probably will not ever need another car, but should I do so, it will be straight back to Southern Mobility.  The no hassle service was superb, and I would recommend this company to anyone. I cannot speak highly enough of them.

Footnote: As we were purchasing this car in the third quarter of the month, they kindly did not deliver it for two weeks so that they could tax it on the beginning of the month after: thus saving us a months road tax.  Win, win all round.

Living in south-east London, I had looked at a number of websites across south-east England. On Southern Mobility’s website  they seemed enthusiastic about the vehicles they had for sale, and the detailed information on each vehicle was very helpful. The vehicles on the website were divided into categories such as “wheelchair up front”, which is what I wanted – this saved me a lot of time and effort.

I was impressed with the reviews, particularly where people living a considerable distance away were accommodated and, when I telephoned stating an interest, I immediately saw that they were only too willing to help. I was concerned as to whether my (powered) wheelchair would fit in the particular vehicle I was interested in – to put my mind at rest, Peter immediately offered to get the car driven to the wheelchair supplier in Tonbridge, a considerable distance.

When I finally took possession of the vehicle, Jim delivered it to my home address, a two hour drive away. On the various occasions I spoke to Jim, he was knowledgeable and took the time to explain things clearly. Nothing was too much trouble for him and his colleagues.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Southern Mobility Vehicles to someone looking for a good customer experience, with dedicated, enthusiastic and helpful staff.

We have a Kia Sedona converted for wheelchairs that we bought from Southern Mobility in 2015.  The rear seat belt jammed and our local garage couldn’t source a new part for us so I contacted Southern Mobility and they could not have been more helpful.  I sent them photos of the part – the wrong ones initially! But with their help we worked out which part we needed. They have ordered us the new part and it is on its way to us already at a really reasonable cost – less than £100 to get it sorted.  They genuinely wanted to help us sort out the problem so that our daughter could travel safely in her vehicle.  I highly recommend Patrick and Jim and the Southern Mobility team.

Unlike most motor trade purchases, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the entire transaction was a positive experience.  This was my first time purchasing an adapted vehicle and the information provided by Patrick at SMV was very useful.

As a result of my visit I decided to purchase a VW Caravelle and also to have additional floor track fitted to maximise the flexibility of the layout. The overall cost was very realistic and in contrast to prices quoted by some other WAV suppliers.

I HAD A BIG PROBLEM....

I have a  Class 3 mobility scooter which is 1580 mm (62") long. It's has a range of over 25 miles, after using it for 3 years I was board with my location. The Solution was buy a WAV vehicle to transport it to new locations. I connected many local mobility vehicle centres and even way up north, they all said you need a large vehicle like Fiat Doblo. I then contacted Southern Mobility Vehicles and spoke to Patrick, he said strait away you need a VW Caddy Maxi Life with a Lewis Reed conversion. Needless to say in very short time a VW is now sitting on my drive, Well done to Patrick and all the team at Southern Mobility Vehicles.

We discovered Southern Mobility Vehicles quite by accident. Whilst searching the internet for dealers in second hand WAVs in an attempt to find someone who might be interested in buying our current vehicle, we found SMV. Not only were they interested in our current vehicle, but they also had in stock a new example of the exact WAV we were looking for. The staff were extremely helpful and the deal was done with the minimum of fuss. We will definitely recommend SMV to our WAV using friends.

If you need a comfortable wav / vehicle, or considering a Ford Tourneo chassis look no further than these gents. Great to deal with, I put their pricing through its paces being a huge researcher. They give you an incredible deal on converting these Tourneos (keeping comfort and enjoyment in mind). I am a driver and for enjoyment I recommend the Tourneo if budget allows.

I wish to thank Southern Mobility Vehicles Ltd and in particular Patrick Cooper for their help and valuable expertise when we were looking to change our WAV. I made a telephone enquiry to Southern Mobility regarding specifications for wheelchair access vehicles.  I was looking to acquire a wheelchair accessible vehicle that was comfortable and not noisy like other WAVs I had experienced.  Patrick suggested that I try the Ford Tourneo Custom WAV. Due to the distance from Southern Mobility I arranged a demonstration with a local dealer. Having tested the Ford Tourneo It is built as a people carrier and therefore has the comfort level of a car not a van. Thank you Patrick for the considerable interest shown even though I did not purchase the vehicle through your organisation. You were instrumental in our decision to choose this vehicle and have been extremely happy with this vehicle.

I bought a WAV from Southern Mobility two months ago and really appreciate how easy it was; it was also a really good price. They took my car in part exchange which was a load off my mind and delivered the van to my house, explaining all the functionality. I’ve been driving it for two months and love it - it’s been well looked after, drives well, and has all the functionality I need. I use it to cart my elderly mother‘s mobility scooter around, and I’m converting it into a weekend campervan. I will return to Southern Mobility for my next van.

I don’t normally write reviews but just had to. My dad lost his leg last year and can only get around in a wheelchair. My mum wanted a car that she could take him out while he’s sat in his wheelchair.  We researched online for WAV dealers because main dealers only sell brand new cars. Southern Mobility Vehicles came up on our search.  I phoned them before viewing their cars.  They seemed very friendly.  On arrival they had a good selection of mobility vehicles to choose from. We were shown around and how the ramps and straps worked for transporting someone in a wheelchair. We tried the vehicle out. It was in lovely condition and had been well looked after with a low mileage. They were so nice and made us feel relaxed, they weren’t pushy, nothing was too much trouble and so helpful. My mum part exchanged her vehicle.  They sorted all the paperwork, road tax and VAT and delivered her mobility vehicle to her home and took her other vehicle away. At no extra cost. She’s got a 2-year warranty including brake down cover which comes with all their vehicles.  They replied to all my emails.  Even posted back receipt and a cd my mum had left in the vehicle she part exchanged.  How thoughtful was that! My mum loves her mobility vehicle and you should of seen the big smile my dad had. He was so pleased to be able to get out and about. If you’re looking for a mobility vehicle, I can totally recommend this family company.  Friendly, reliable, helpful, stress free. We’d definitely use them again either to sell or buy. Thank you so much.

We went here today to look for a WAV with little knowledge of them. We were greeted outside on arrival, offered a drink and made to feel so welcome immediately. When my partner explained what we were looking for, they found us a perfect fit, without trying to upsell like so many motor companies tend to do. Staff were completely knowledgeable, approachable and friendly and made the whole experience relaxed and simple. Well worth the two hours travel time to get there and would not hesitate to use them again. Exceptional service from exceptional gentlemen!

My wife and I were very impressed with the guys at Southern Mobility Vehicles as they made the purchase of a vehicle as easy and professional as possible. They had several wheelchair accessible vehicles and were keen to show us the different types. They said what they were going to do throughout the process and delivered as promised. Buying a car from southern mobility vehicles was probably the easiest wheelchair car i have ever bought. Everything was done by them in a professional and straight forward manner. Even though i lived over 200 miles away this wasn't a problem it was still delivered promptly. The car was exactly as expected and everything on the car works as it should.I would therefore have no problem in recommending southern mobility vehicles too anybody who requires a wheelchair access vehicle.

We are a family of four from Malta and this WAV is our second purchase as we needed to replace the three seater Kia we previously owned. The information found online about all the vehicles held at your end were very detailed and from home we have narrowed the search down to two vehicles. The pictures and video found with the car specifies make it easier for me to make sure that the car has all the requirements I was looking for. We visited Southern Mobility Vehicles in April, Patrick was really helpful and attentive, over two visits I think we tried out six different models of WAV eventually on Patrick’s recommendation  we waited and came back again returning when he had a Ford Tourneo Custom available to show us, as soon as we tried the vehicle we decided it was the one for us. With three generations of the family to move around the flexibility and comfort of the Ford was unequalled. The only frustration in an otherwise excellent process was due to it being an order for a new vehicle we had to wait a bit longer than we were advised. When it arrived the internal layout and ramp are as versatile and easy to operate as promised, in the few weeks we have had the vehicle our wheel chair users have been able to get out more, go further and do more things than in the preceding six months. We have been well looked after and advised on what has been a very worthwhile purchase, if we need another one we would go back to Southern Mobility Vehicles.

I think what impressed me was that I was talking to human beings, not just salespeople, who listened to me and were very helpful; while they are obviously in the business of selling WAVs I did not feel pressurised at all. I first telephoned to enquire about WAVs and found people at SMV to be considerate, knowledgeable and professional; that continued through to our visiting, testing and purchasing a Fiat Qubo, with up front wheelchair facility which has given a new lease of life to my wife and myself. Being new to the need to obtain a WAV I consider myself fortunate that Southern Mobility Vehicles was one of the suppliers I approached. From the start they demonstrated an enthusiasm to help which was sadly lacking in some of the others. They identified the most suitable vehicle for my needs and drove no small distance to allow me to examine it. After agreeing a price they prepared it in an immaculate condition and again delivered it to me at the agreed time and date. I recommend them unreservedly.

Having decided to buy an up front wheelchair accessible KIA Sedona a fortnight ago and found one on sale by Southern Mobility Vehicles I was able to see the vehicle concerned which was brought to me in Epsom and having decided that it fitted the bill it was mine with a period of 1 week. It was an entirely painless process which is how I like things to be. And all my contacts with the company were polite and extremely helpful.  So I have no hesitation in recommending the company to anyone looking for a wheelchair accessible vehicle. I recently outgrew my ride on mobility scooter and needed something bigger. I managed to get the scooter I wanted, but it was too big to go into my car. Time came to source a new vehicle so I visited ‘Southern Mobility Vehicles’ premises to check out what was on offer. What an amazing experience! I was met by Elliott, a young man who knew what he was talking about, passionate about vehicles and a credit to modern youth. I told him the details of the scooter and he was immediately able to eliminate some vehicles as unsuitable as either too small or too big. He was not pushy or trying to get me to buy the most expensive vehicle and got some out in order I could check each one. We were joined by Patrick who was knowledgeable as to what vehicles were due in and when. After some discussion, it was agreed that I would wait and see a VW Caddy Maxi that was due in. When the vehicle arrived, I again visited and was met by both Patrick and Elliott who showed it to me. It was obvious to us all that my new scooter would be a snug fit and the pair suggested before any decision was made, it should be tried in the vehicle. Agreement was made with ‘Mobility and Comfort’ of Bognor Regis to bring the scooter to the premises. When it arrived we were joined by Jim who was ready with his toolbox should any minor operation be needed. It fit. Snuggly, admittedly, but it fits. Good for me. The vehicle was bought and I haven’t looked back.

We visited SMV new to the need to transport a wheelchair in our car.  Patrick discussed and carefully noted our wishes and requirements (including budget).  He and his colleagues then demonstrated a selection of possible solutions in different cars from the large collection of immaculate vehicles on site.  Nothing was too much trouble. When we had discussed all the pros and cons and chosen the features which best fulfilled our needs, Patrick found us a car which incorporated all that had been specified.  The car was then delivered to our home where we were shown how to load and unload the wheelchair. We had purchased a mobility scooter which breaks down into 4-5 sections, meaning that every time we wanted to use it we had to lift it out of the boot and assemble it. It just got to be too much bother, and we needed a vehicle which could stow the scooter ready-to-go.  I'm so glad we found Southern Mobility Vehicles to guide us through to our final choice. The first thing to strike us was the amount of choice - they have a LOT of stock, all looking very good: diesel, petrol, manual, auto, you name it. Patrick understood completely that his customers don't exactly dream about having a mobility vehicle, and that we just needed to work out what functions were important to us. The team did this splendidly in just 2 visits, with as many test drives as we wanted and absolutely no pressure. The after-sales package is also first rate, including delivery to our front door and lots of explanations of how things worked (the things we'd forgotten in the excitement!) Our Citroen Berlingo is much admired by the neighbours! and gets us out of the house with no trouble.

We were looking for an automatic vehicle to make it easier for transporting my wife’s powered scooter around and for carrying four people when the scooter was not required.

I searched the Internet and discovered SMV where they displayed a very good selection of vehicles. We then decided to make the trip to their display area, we received a very warm welcome from Elliott (and his tea isn’t bad either) he showed us a selection of vehicles that met our requirements or could be addapted to our requirements, after a test drive we decider on a very nice clean and tidy Peugeot Partner Tepee. Elliott suggested that a transfer plate be fitted to assist my wife in getting in and out of the driver’s seat, Patrick arranged to have this and a removeable fourth seat and roof bars fitted.

Peter delivered the vehicle to our home and explained all the bits and pieces and answered any questions we had. We found the whole experience from the first cup Tea to the home delivery easy hassle free and professional. We found Peter and his team to be very friendly and helpful, nice people to do business with. I can highly recommend SMV.

I live in Guernsey and i needed to move from a standard car to a mobility vehicle to transport my Mobility Scooter and family, I spent hours searching for a company that could supply me with the right vehicle at the right spec and the right price. I first contacted Patrick several months ago with a view to purchasing a drive from wheelchair vehicle and found him to be very knowledgeable and sincere. Without any pressure he had my chosen vehicle delivered to me for for review. In order to make the vehicle suitable for me several adjustments needed to be made and the vehicle was taken away, the adjustments made and the vehicle brought back to me the following day. After test driving the vehicle I sadly had to conclude that my days of driving had come to an end as it simply felt too unsafe for me to be driving. That vehicle is now in my carpark and I have already enjoyed trips out to the pub for dinner and Goodwood for lunch.

We recently bought a Kia Sedona wheelchair access vehicle from Southern Mobility Vehicles, the whole transaction was very easy and the staff were all very pleasant and extremely helpful, we contacted Patrick and arranged a test drive and were encouraged to do a proper test drive, not just take it to the end of the road and back. Once we agreed that we were going to buy the vehicle we then realised we needed a winch fitted in the vehicle. Patrick arranged this for us and did a minor repair to a seat. It was also MOT'd and delivered to our door all within a week. We are very very happy and would encourage anyone to check them out we have found you will not be disappointed we also got two years breakdown cover with the vehicle.

Southern Mobility Vehicles team supported us to identify the best fit for a replacement vehicle. They went over and beyond  by bringing the car to our home in Bognor for people to try out before we decided to buy.  We felt that their approach was professional at all times and felt very personal . There was never any sign of pressure sales and they were definitely focussed on supporting us to find the right fit for our service users. We had a complex wish list and they supported us to get the best fit possible. We would definitely use this company again and appreciated all their work.

I visited Southern Mobility Vehicles during Autumn 2017 to investigate the possibility of obtaining a vehicle that I could access using my mobility scooter and transfer to the drivers seat without need of assistance. The excellent website displayed several vehicles with electric rear doors/ramps with access to the drivers seat and three Volkswagen Transporter Minibuses that looked very suitable. During my visit, Patrick was very helpful and showed a clear understanding of my complex requirements. I chose a VW Transporter with a rear hydraulic lift and electric door that easily allowed access to the vehicle and an open pathway to the drivers seat. I did not like the hand controls that were fitted and I found the steering heavy for my needs. This was resolved by the vehicle going to Steering Development Ltd for fitting of lightened power steering then delivery to my home address for my usual suppliers to fit new hand controls. This all involved a lot of administration and considerable patience by Patrick  which he was happy to do. All in all a very satisfactory experience that has given me the freedom to drive independently again. I would happily recommend SMV and Patrick to find a vehicle to suit the needs of disabled drivers.

Excellent help from Patrick to identify the specification of a WAV that would suit my daughter’s needs. This looked as if it would be particularly hard to source, as vehicles with a dropped floor and a specific driving position, together with some other ramp requirements, are scarce. We were therefore delighted that Peter took ownership and found a Caravelle that almost completely matched the desired specification. Both Patrick and Peter clearly demonstrated a focus on the needs of the customer rather than just “shifting stock” and we were very pleased with the helpful service.

Friendly service from start to finish, did not pressure me for a sale, very patient with me taking so long to choose from all the equally good vehicles. Patrick was exceptionally helpful even arranging to see me late one evening for a test drive as i work long shifts, excellent knowledge and advice could not of been happier with our purchase. would highly recommend. We travelled from Belfast to see a vehicle which had a been adapted for a wheelchair. We couldn’t find anything like this vehicle back home and we saw one here which seemed just right. We weren’t sure to travel to England from Belfast in case the vehicle was not in good condition and it would be a waste of a journey. How wrong were we. We were treated like royalty. They very kindly collected us from the Airport at London Gatwick and brought us to the business. The vehicle we were interested in was all ready for us to see. It was absolutely spotless, not a mark, just what we were looking for. Peter and Patrick were extremely helpful and helped us find somewhere to stay nearby, and also booked the Boat home for the next day. We drove to Holyhead and then got the Stenaline to Dublin. A long journey of 360 miles of driving in one day until home in Northern Ireland, but definitely well worth the journey. We absolutely love the adapted wheelchair accessible vehicle and can’t recommend this company enough. They are absolutely excellent.

Needed to find a replacement mobility vehicle able to take a wheelchair plus at least four passengers plus - and most importantly two very large Chesapeake Bay retrievers. Had to be rear loading. Searching adverts found an interesting vehicle with Southern Mobility. Dubious at first as we are some 200 miles away but what an amazing experience with wonderful, helpful and above all caring people. They understood our needs, they appreciated the distance problem - even going to the trouble of a live video link while they took endless internal measurements of the vehicle to make sure everything would fit and, I bought it "unseen" - that's how much confidence they had given me. And we were not disappointed. The vehicle was everything they said it would be, spotless when delivered to our door, complete with guarantee. Patrick, their sales manager could not have been more helpful. And the vehicle is great. Have no hesitation in recommending the company to anyone seeking a mobility vehicle. PS - I don't usually do testimonials but such was the quality of their service I have made an exception.

It is a daunting process obtaining a wheelchair adapted vehicle for the first time, but I am pleased to say that Rhea and Patrick were great in helping me pick a vehicle suitable to my needs...particularly in terms of weight of ramps. Rhea was very patient with me whilst I looked at various vehicles. Advice was also given on insurance matters and they were very honest about how I would get more for my existing vehicle rather than part exchanging it. Many thanks to them both.

I have now had my new car for 6 weeks and with the locking plate installed (all arranged by Patrick as a one day job), I am finding loading in much quicker and journeys more comfortable.

As much as we had a fair idea of what we wanted from a WAV the whole experience, help and advice we were given from Patrick Cooper at Southern Mobility Vehicles was nothing other than first class. From the very outset we felt completely confident in Patrick and we felt we could trust him implicitly. We had viewed a car on their website that appeared to meet our requirements but for us there was a complication in that Southern Mobility Vehicles is over 200 miles from our home and it wasn’t practical for us to travel to view the car. Was it possible to buy a car that we had not viewed and only seen on website pictures? ABSOLUTELY YES! It soon became apparent that this was not going to be a typical used car buying experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend Southern Mobility Vehicles for those looking to buy a wheelchair adapted vehicle. The engineering quality on their wheelchair conversions was generally higher than I found elsewhere and the prices very competitive. My wife has a powered wheelchair which is very wide at the arms so it was difficult to find a car with access which would work. So that she wouldn't have to travel and have a stressful time feeling under pressure to decide on a car, she stayed at home while I sampled the wheelchair passenger position in various cars and took iPad videos of the view she would get. The salesman gave me a connection to the SMV wifi so she was able to view these from home and make a choice. Very helpful and patient sales staff and very pleased with our choice.

I have been searching for a WAV for over a year and most sales people we encountered were not sympathetic to individual’s needs, most had only in mind to gain a sale. On our first visit to SMV they were immediately helpful from a needs point of view, although the first visit did not produce a vehicle. They knew our needs and within a short time they found us a vehicle which was right, I'll have no hesitation in going back to SMV.

We chose to visit Southern Mobility Vehicles after seeing a range of their stock advertised on eBay. The range appeared to cover most sizes and types of mobility vehicle, from cars, small car derived vans up to and including panel van size. I had a model in mind that I had not seen up close, they had one in stock and we made an appointment to visit. Friendly and welcoming on our arrival, the said vehicle was ready for me to inspect and test drive. There was no hard sell or detrimental remarks about the chosen vehicle. Once tested I realised that it was not suitable for us. We were shown many other more suitable vehicles in all price ranges, when I said that I was not interested in one particular model I was shown all apart from that one model. I was encouraged to inspect any and all parts of each vehicle. My husband was given a seat and the owner kept him company whilst I looked and test drove various vehicles. When I felt the vehicle met all my criteria, I was given the opportunity to take my husband for a test drive. At no time was there any pressure or feeling of being hurried. We did buy from Southern Mobility Vehicles and it was arranged that our purchase was valeted, serviced and delivered a week later. There was no charge for the delivery even though we live over 40 miles from their yard. Excellent service and aftercare given.

It was easy and pleasurable to do business with everyone at Southern Mobility Vehicles everyone was polite and courteous. The vehicle itself was in excellent condition and although previously adapted for someone else’s needs, with a few alterations the vehicle was ideal for my own particular needs. The trade in with my own vehicle and the delivery of the new one was smoothly dealt with and hassle free.
